Started the morning out in search of Suds-n-Duds, a Laundromat about 1 mile away located next door to the remains of the Red Abbey. I found the remains of the Abbey, but Duds-n-Suds was no more.
A new trail had been opened out at Blarney. I saw people walking on it last year, but was not sure how to get to the trailhead. I assumed it would start from town. It’s a short 30 minute bus ride to Blarney. I spent far too long in the Blarney Woolen Mills trying on hats and hand-knit woolen goods, but did not find anything that I could not live without. The shop was quiet, I had gotten there a few hours before the bus loads of tourist arrived.
Next up was suppose to be a lovely stroll along the river. Unfortunately, there is no path from town to the trail head. Locals drive there and the bus does not stop there. I was told I could walk the 1.5 miles to the trail, but it would be along a major road without sidewalks and I was not willing to undertake such a risky venture. So back to Cork I went.
Matt got home around 5:30 and we headed out for our evening walk. For dinner we went to The Oliver Plunkett Bar which has the Frisky Irish Whiskey Bar on the second floor. It serves pub grub with traditional Irish music. My Fish n' Chips were delicious and worth every calorie. I went for a walk on the wild side and had a pint of Murphy's Stout...still like Guinness better. The music set was fun and at the end the musicians gave lessons on the bodhrán, and Irish drum made of goat skin.
